HOW TO LEARN GERMAN EFFECTIVELY

How to learn conversational German effectively is a question many students are interested in. Therefore, VOGEL students shouldn't skip this section before officially starting their studies.

First and foremost, remember one key principle for learning German effectively: LEARN LIKE A CHILD. - learn like a child

Now, try to remember when you were a child, before you could speak, you learned Vietnamese following these steps, right?

-At first, I was just observing my surroundings, not understanding anything at all.

-Listen to your parents say SIMPLE things. First, for example, Papa, ah, wow… and you happily copy it.

-You start saying your first words, maybe Mom, Dad

- You continue to observe and expand your vocabulary, and you'll be able to speak your first sentences.

After 4 years, you've started to speak very long sentences.

-Then you go to kindergarten, where you learn the first letters of the alphabet.

-In elementary school, you start learning grammar; you learn what a subject and a predicate are.

-You're in higher education, perhaps majoring in literature, and you write really good essays.

That's how your Vietnamese learning process has unfolded, and don't think it's over yet; you'll have to keep learning for the rest of your life.

Throughout your learning process, you have used all your senses to perceive the world; you used your eyes to recognize nouns and adjectives. You used your emotions to distinguish different states of adverbs, etc. This has given you EXPERIENCE. It's correct, and that experience is deeply ingrained in your subconscious. At this point, the experience will be associated with a certain sound, and that sound is the vocabulary. And when you encounter a situation corresponding to that experience again, that sound will automatically reappear in your mind.

Pay attention to the order in which you learn Vietnamese; it's very important. Start with the simplest words and gradually increase the difficulty. And remember, written words are just a form of sound representation. Your brain only wants to remember sounds and images, not written words, so listen a lot to memorize the sounds before looking at the written words.

Grammar is also very important; it's necessary for deeper understanding, easier memorization of sentences, and more accurate speaking. However, you should only study grammar once you can already speak simple sentences by memorizing them.

One thing you need to pay attention to is that, because you speak Vietnamese, your way of thinking is heavily influenced by Vietnamese. Therefore, VOGEL also introduces another process for effective learning, tentatively called the EXTENDED CHILD-LEARNING METHOD , with the following steps.

1) First – FIND A STUDY PARTNER WHO IS BETTER THAN YOU. Note that this person is extremely important.

2) Prepare thoroughly at home, including simple vocabulary and short sentences that you understand, to bring to class and use them.

3) Whenever you don't understand something the teacher is saying, ask your friend immediately for an explanation.

4) Gradually, once you're comfortable with simple sentences, develop them by adding vocabulary to suit the communication situation. Remember to learn from everyone; make it a habit to look up any new German word you encounter immediately.

5) Remember to find places where you can talk to foreigners to get used to their reactions – and especially , DON'T BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES.

6) Once you can speak reasonably well, it's time to focus on grammar; find some reliable grammar books.

7) Now is the time to practice the necessary skills you want to develop in order to take the TELC certification exam… if you need to.

The table above outlines the steps for learning a vocabulary word effectively.
